Om Mani Padme Hum

Om Mani Padme Hum (The Temple)

Om Mani Padme Hum
~
Know ye not, You are the Temple
We forgot We are the Temple
Yes you are, You are the Temple
Yes we are, We are the Temple

Om = Sacred syllable – Life, past, present future, that which we are and that which encompasses us
Mani = Precious and Priceless Essence
Padme = Lotus
Hum = A word to represent pondering and reflection

the jewel is in the lotus

One aspect is that WE are the lotus, grown from the mud, with the divine spark residing inside of us, connecting us to each other and our shared source. The precious essence of divinity is the most valuable jewel, and resides within us all. Sometimes our ‘houses’ may have a little more mud on them, temporarily obscuring the inner light, but the light persists. Chant on!

‘Seed Mantra’ sounds contained in the chant are:
Om = Sacred syllable
Ma = Seed mantra for the highest expression of ethics
Ni = Seed mantra for the patience and tolerance
Pad = Seed mantra for stamina and perserverance
Me = Seed mantra for concentration and focus
Hum = A call to ponder the truth and awaken to higher wisdom

In his book Heart Treasure of the Enlightened Ones,
Gen Rinproche says of the mantra:
The mantra Om Mani Padme Hum is easy to say yet quite powerful, because it contains the essence of the entire teaching. When you say the first syllable Om, it is blessed to help you achieve perfection in the practice of generosity, Ma helps perfect the practice of pure ethics, Ni helps achieve perfection in the practice of tolerance and patience. Pad, the fourth syllable, helps to achieve perfection of perseverance, Me helps achieve perfection in the practice of concentration, and the final sixth syllable Hum helps achieve perfection in the practice of wisdom.
